A research-based design model for building learning experiences that are clear, scaffolded, aligned, consistent, and sustainable. Anchored in five pillars — Cognitive Sequencing, Embedded Scaffolding, Aligned Assessment, Instructional Consistency, and Institutional Sustainability — that move a course away from disconnected content delivery and toward structured learner progression: a connected path from “I don’t know where to start” toward visible, supported progress.

Most courses deliver content. What’s usually missing is the path between concepts — the connective tissue that takes a learner from one idea to the next. This part is genuinely hard, and pretending otherwise is how learners get lost. The framework names the path and builds it in.
Together they turn disconnected content delivery into structured learner progression.
Learning is designed in the order that thinking develops, so learners move through a clear progression instead of jumping to advanced performance too soon.
Support is built into the learning experience itself, through models, prompts, practice, feedback, and structure at the point of need. (Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development.)
Objectives, practice, feedback, and assessment are mapped to the same kind of thinking, so learners are prepared for what they’re asked to demonstrate. (Bloom’s Taxonomy.)
The learning experience follows a coherent structure across lessons, modules, instructors, and delivery formats — without losing the human touch.
Strong design shouldn’t depend on heroic individual effort. It should be reusable, support faculty delivery, and scale quality over time.
Constructivism — learners build understanding, they don’t just receive it. Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development — support sits just ahead of where the learner is now. Bloom’s Taxonomy — match the assessment to the level of thinking.
